HB 4673 Media Literacy

February 10, 2020
HB 4673 (media literacy) has been sent to the full House Education committee, but we need to get another hearing scheduled. So I am writing to recommend that you ask the chair of the House Education Committee to schedule a follow-up hearing.

The chair is Rep. Rita Allison. You can send her a direct email: ritaallison@schouse.gov

Be sure to say–in your own words–why you think this measure is needed. Are you concerned, like I am, that not all of our students are getting the necessary skills to navigate the complex world in which we live? I have already testified that I am concerned that current teaching standards are inadequate and that today’s students are not getting sufficient education and instruction in 21st century literacy skills.

All this measure requires is that the State Department of Education create an advisory committee to investigate media literacy education currently and make recommendations. (At last week’s hearings, SDE reps said they were not opposed to a task force, yet one representative voted to delay action)

PLEASE EMAIL HER TODAY and let me know ASAP (email fbaker1346@gmail.com) if you get a response. TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE.
