20  Today, it was my privilege to be called upon by the SC State Department of Education to provide instruction designed to give educators advice and recommendations on how to improve student reading and writing skills. For my part, I did a compare and contrast activity using Clint Eastwood two films “Flags of Our Fathers,” and “Letters from Iwo Jima.” Later, I conducted a deeper look into POV via films for elementary, middle and high school students.

16  This afternoon, I conducted a workshop with parents and young people at the downtown branch of the Richland County Public Library, on “How Movies Are Made: A Behind-the-Scenes Workshop.” It was fun. I talked about the various stages of film production, and some of the techniques film-makers use. Then participants read a passage from a novel and created their own storyboards. You can see a portion of the presentation here.
