Media, Diversity, and Democracy: July 2008- Teacher Institute
Appalachian State University is offering FREE media literacy staff development
in its July 21st- 24th special institute Media, Diversity and Democracy.
The session is especially relevant for teachers in Social Studies, History,
Civics.
The 4 day event will feature sessions from Chris Sperry and Frank Baker, recent
recipient's of the Cable Leaders in Learning Award.
Also presenting will be Carole Gerster, from the University of California Santa
Cruz. Dr. Gerster is the author of
Teaching Ethnic Diversity With Film.
Other faculty include program coordinator David Considine and ASU graduate Nicki
Soice who has received accolades for her presentations at AMLA and National
Council for the Social Studies.
The institute is offered FREE to North Carolina teachers and is just $75 for out
of state teachers.

Seating will be competitive and limited. Housing is available.
Students who wish to take the class for 3 hours of graduate credit pay regular
in-state or out-of-state tuition.
